ATLANTA, Georgia (WorldWideNews) October 24, 2011--The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is partnering with Atlanta-Based GivingPoint to build a unity garden and courtyard for over 1,000 at-risk, but highly capable students at Carver High School. State Farm is donating a $70,300 grant towards the effort. The celebration to this event is being held on the grounds of the Carver Health and Sciences and Research School on Thursday October 27th at 11:00am where the school will be performing the modern day unity theme song “Change this World Together” and filming a music video with ~400 kids singing and dancing!
“This State Farm/Giving Point effort is making it possible for students from the New Schools at Carver and teens from the YMCA of Atlanta to participate in a united effort to transform our school grounds and help the community at-large. Throughout the project, we will focus on teaching the students teamwork, service leadership, environmental stewardship, and the value of uniting to help others for a common cause,” says Dr. Darian Jones, Principal at the Health Sciences and Research School at Carver.
“Students across America are leveraging GivingPoint’s innovative technology to find their passion and make an impact. “We are grateful to State Farm for entrusting GivingPoint and giving at-risk students in Atlanta the opportunity to build our community and make it stronger,” says Executive Director Ansley Jones Colby. “Volunteering is the secret to great futures for our children! This goes for all kids from all cultural backgrounds around the world.”
This is going to be one of the most impactful events to happen in the Atlanta school system in years says U Hatin? University Chairman Lance Silver. “Teens from rival neighborhoods taking part in feeding each other literally from the ground up. Who better than State FARM to make this happen! The University is extremely proud to participate in this program and Dr. Jones and all of his kids and staff have been remarkable! They have taken it way beyond what I would have expected! This event on the 27th is going to be exciting and its impact will be felt worldwide. News outlets in Germany and as far as Asia are on deck for the coverage,” Silver added.
